Newly Reported New Market, VA Date Back
New Market, VA - $10 1902 Date Back Fr. 623 The First National
Bank Ch. # (S)10568 PMG Very Fine 30.This very attractive, new addition to the census of a very rare Virginia bank is just the fourth example to be reported. The only issuer to operate in this Shenandoah County locale, the First National was in business for a mere four years before closing its doors in 1918 after issuing barely 1,000 sheets of $10 and $20 Blue Seals. Tonight's offering is a very boldly printed note with excellent color, dark pen signatures, and just even wear. It compares quite favorably to a $20 Plain Back, in a PMG Very Fine 30 EPQ holder, that we recently auctioned for $6,900.
