Suriname Surinaamsche Bank 50 Gulden 1.7.1901 (1903) Pick 55g PMG Very Fine 30.
The Surinamese Bank's series of notes dated 1865 to 1933 filled the far-flung colony's monetary needs despite the incredible distance between Suriname and the Netherlands. The 50 Gulden offered here is the first and only issued example graded in the PMG Population Report for ANY known date of issue. The serial numbers for this series were cumulative, which means that this was 21,077th note of this denomination issued since 1865. Rare is an understatement to describe this offering. A solid Very-Fine grade with a small notation on the back lead to an outstanding visual appeal. This is the first we have offered and it could be argued that this is the rarest issued banknote we have had the privilege to offer.
