Utterly Impressive 20,000 Reis Colonial Issue

Saint Thomas and Prince Banco Nacional Ultramarino 20,000 Reis 2.1.1897 Pick 6 PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
The earliest banknotes from the colonial period of Africa are rarely seen today, as print totals were small and redemption periods saw most notes taken from circulation. This imposing, beautiful, and extremely rare 20,000 Reis was issued in 1897 and withdrawn in 1912, leaving a scant number extant to be collected today. This may have been the highest denomination of the series to be issued, as the 25,000 Reis is only known in Proof format. In the opinion of the cataloger, this may the most impressive of all Portuguese Colonial notes ever issued in Africa. The perforated edges are still fully intact, and the signatures are as bold as the day this note was printed. A miraculous survivor.
