Saint Thomas and Prince Banco Nacional Ultramarino 10,000
Reis 2.1.1897 Pick 5 ST8 PMG Very Fine 30.An incredible 19th-century colonial banknote. This series was virtually unknown until a few examples were discovered recently. PMG has graded only three examples of this beautiful denomination at the time of cataloging. Problem-free circulation is easily seen through the third party holder. Notice the two perforated edges on the sides that have remained intact. Print totals are unknown, and signature varieties may yet be discovered. However, since these notes were withdrawn from circulation in 1912, it can be assumed that few extant pieces exist to be collected today. Portuguese Colonial notes are always popular with collectors, with the rarest types always spawning rigorous bidding at auction.
