Unlisted High Denomination Specimen With Overprint

Romania Banca Nationala 1000 Lei 1929 (ND 1941) Pick UNL Specimen PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
A handsome, gigantic, highest denomination type note. It is unknown whether this denomination was truly issued with the "Farmers Image" as well as the cipher of king Michael I that was overprinted as seen in the watermark area at the top left and right. The inclusion of these overprints listed above is most interesting, as they were both adopted post 1941. A small notation is seen in the back margin along with red overprints on both sides. This pastel blue and white 1000 Lei was issued from 1910 to 1931 and was replaced by a similar variety with additional colors in 1933. This Specimen is dated January 31st, 1929, and includes three signatures that were only present until March 1929. It is recorded that a small cache of unused stock was overprinted and prepared for issuance during World War II, however they were reported to be destroyed by 1945. The existence of any issued or remainder examples is truly unknown, leaving us with only this interesting and very rare Specimen. This is the first time that we have offered this variety in this format, and we were unable to find any publicly offered examples.
