Malaysia Bank Negara 1000 Ringgit ND (1976-81) Pick 18
KNB18a-b PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.Malaysia's $1000 Ringgit banknotes are as alluring as they are rare. Their ultra high contemporary spending power led to small production figures and relatively few saved for posterity. Additionally, the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis forced the withdrawal of existing $500 and $1000 Ringgit banknotes, further lessening the number of remaining examples available to collectors. The $1000 Ringgit offered here is the final variety for the design, with a non-matching guilloche at bottom left. In previous designs, the guilloche in the bottom right and left corners matched. At the time of writing, this example is tied for the finest grade in the PMG Population Report. Always in-demand, always desirable, especially so in the very best of collector grades. An amazing and beautiful banknote. If all of the above was not enough, this is the first note in a consecutive serial number pair offered in auction today. This beautiful $1000 Ringgit is perhaps more rare and valuable when kept together with the next lot which is consecutively numbered and equally attractive!
