Description

Incredible Serial Number 3 British West Africa 10 Shillings

Low Serial Number 3 British West Africa West African Currency Board 10 Shillings 31.3.1916 Pick 4a PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
The first date of issue for notes of the West African Currency Board was 1916, and surviving examples bearing that date are exceedingly rare. This incredible serial number A/1 000003 is part of a pair of complementary denominations offered in auction today, with the 20 Shillings offered in the subsequent lot. It appears that this note was saved, along with the 20 Shillings as part of a presentation pair, and thankfully have been saved to be collected today. At the time of cataloging, this example is finest graded in the PMG Population Report of only three examples in the census bearing this date. In fact, it is the only note of the three grading better than Very Fine. Some toning and mounting remnants are mentioned for accuracy. An important type note from the region, and the only variety of the type to feature a complete blank back side. Of the highest degree of rarity and an incredible note, especially when paired with the 20 Shillings in the subsequent lot.
