Description

Single Finest and Lone Graded 500 Gulden of 1954

Curacao Curacaosche Bank 500 Gulden 25.11.1954 Pick 44 PLNA15.7 PMG Very Fine 30.
Curacao banknotes of the 1940s and 1950s are surprisingly rare in issued format, with the higher denominations being very rare to nearly impossible to obtain. This 500 Gulden was the highest denomination of the series, and only 2,000 were printed and issued. Additionally, nearly all were withdrawn or redeemed in the 1960s. This type represented a serious amount of money in contemporary times, making it cost prohibitive to save this note as a collectible in nearly all instances. This example is moderately circulated but with strong colors and good eye appeal. At the time of writing, this is the first and only example graded in the PMG Population Report. One of the rarest and most important Caribbean banknotes we have ever offered, and a type that appeals to Dutch, Dutch Colonial, Caribbean, and World collectors.
