A simply beautiful banknote Remainder, and one of the best designs by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Company in the opinion of the cataloger. The visual appeal of this vertical type is unmatched for Chinese banknotes of the imperial area. The portrait is of Li Hongzhang, a military general who promoted modernization of Chinese industry as well as its military. He traveled the world promoting Chinese interests in the West. It is likely that no banknotes from the Peiyang Tientsin Bank were officially issued, and as such only remainders and prototypes such as Specimens are known to exist. Fantastically pretty and worthy of serious consideration.
