1.7.1916 Pick S442 S/M#S54-3 PMG About Uncirculated 53.The Mercantile Bank of India issued banknotes in China and Hong Kong during the 20th-century, but typically in small batches, making extant examples rarely seen today. This impressive 5 Dollars of 1916 is bettered by only two examples in the PMG Population Report at the time of writing. The eye appeal of this example is utterly fantastic, with bold printing and signatures, combined with clean paper and minimal traces of circulation or handling. This is the only date for Shanghai notes of this issuer and few are extant to be collected today. Not to be missed and especially worth consideration at this grade level.
