Description

Sole Example in PMG Census

China Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation 5 Dollars 1.1.1901 Pick S378.
A Tientsin city of issue is seen on this classically designed example still using steel plates designed and printed by Barclay and Fry. The colonial badge of Hong Kong is seen on the face and back, most likely as the design was standardized across all issuing offices in this early Barclay and Fry series. Though the denomination is for Local Currency, there was most likely a recognizable amount of attempts to try and arbitrage these similar looking notes across different cities.

Excellent colors and the all original EPQ designation must be noted on this example, which is the sole example in the PMG Census. As these notes went through several rounds of replacement and redemption, this may be the finest example extant. PMG About Uncirculated 55 EPQ.
