Description

High Denomination Rarity for Shanghai

China Asiatic Banking Corporation, Shanghai 100 Taels ND (ca. 1860s) Pick UNL Remainder PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ.
The Asiatic Banking Corporation was a famous but very short-lived bank. Founded in either 1862 or 1864 in India, this bank quickly expanded to Sri Lanka, Singapore, Hong Kong, and China. Banknotes were in the process of being made, but suddenly, the bank liquidated its assets in 1866. Only remainders and Specimen remain, except for a few issued examples from Ceylon. This handsome, large format type is a higher denomination prepared for the Shanghai branch. Original paper with just minor handling. Very rare and a desirable relic from a bank that expanded quickly and failed within only a few years.

PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ。
