Description

Chile Banco de Jose Bunster 5 Pesos ND (ca.1882) Pick S132s Specimen PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ.
A very interesting Specimen, prepared by the American Banknote Company for the Bank of Jose Bunster, a Chilean businessman with various landowning interests. It is a safe assumption that no notes of this type were issued, although unused stock of the 1 Peso were repurposed and issued by the Republic of Chile in 1898. At the time of cataloging, PMG has graded only three or four Specimen of this 5 Pesos rarity. Hole punched and overprint cancelled. Top margin selvage and ink are mentioned for accuracy. A very rare type for a small private bank of a Chilean mogul in the 19th-century.
