Description
Exceedingly Rare $500 From the Famed 1935 Series
Canada Bank of Canada $500 1935 BC-17 English Text PCGS
Banknote About UNC 53 PPQ.The Bank of Canada officially opened for business on March 11, 1935, and began distribution of the new small sized banknotes which were to replace Dominion and private issue notes. This series included denominations from $1 to $1000, with notes printed in English and French. The second highest denomination of the series was the $500, and it had the smallest print total, for both English and French text emissions. Only 20,900 notes were printed in English and a scant 5,000 printed in French. Any issued example of the $500 is a prize, as only a few are known to exist, no matter the language. In fact, we have offered an issued $500 only once previously, in 2005. This remarkable example is outstanding, grading About Uncirculated with the coveted PPQ designation, confirming originality. A three-digit serial number adds to the intrigue. A famed rarity, with only 12 pieces confirmed in private hands in the 34th edition of Canadian Government Paper Money, this is an extraordinary offering in spectacular, original condition.
