British North Borneo Nissan Estate 5 Dollars ND (1942) Pick UNL KNB3b Remainder PMG Very Fine 20.
An interesting and very rare World War II type note. After the Japanese invaded and defeated the British in Sabah, British North Borneo, notes of the colonial era needed to be withdrawn and replaced by occupation currency. While that process was happening, the Nissan Rubber Estate, an established Japanese firm in Borneo, was tasked with printing a rudimentary series of notes that resembled the previous series so that it would be accepted by the public. This $5 example is circulated with foreign substance and tears, but thankfully, all designs remain visible. An important pedigree is seen on the back of the third party holder.
