Fr. 2301* $5 1934 Mule Hawaii Federal Reserve Note. PCGS Gem New 65PPQ.
An excessively rare star in this grade. PMG has graded only a single example as uncirculated, with that piece a 64E, while PMG has certified only two pieces as uncirculated, one 66P and this 65P. None have appeared at auction until now. One look at this note, with its near-perfect centering and total originality, makes this observer wonder why this piece is not in the 66 holder. We would not be at all surprised to see a similar realization for this Mule star as for the non-Mule star offered as part of the Jones collection holdings.
