Description

Superlative Key of the $1 Silvers

Fr. 1605 $1 1928E Silver Certificate. PCGS Banknote Superb Gem Unc 68 PPQ.
Series 1928E started with serial number F72000001B, making this well preserved example with serial F72000123B the 123rd note of the series. Friedberg 1605 is the key for a collection of $1 Silvers. This plate letter C piece possesses spot-on centering within balanced margins, while the bottom edge runs right along the paper guide line marker. Also, our ruler tells us that front to back registration is only off by a millimeter. Both serial numbers exhibit embossing, while the embossing of the Treasury Seal is observed in the unprinted area on the back. PCGS Banknote has not graded a single piece equal or higher than the gorgeous example offered in this lot. Also, a look at the PMG Population Report informs us that they have graded a solitary Fr. 1605 equal with not a single example earning a higher grade. We originally auctioned this superlative $1 1928E Silver in January 2013. It was in a PCGS 68PPQ holder at the time and realized $11,750. It has since crossed over into a PCGS Banknote holder at the same third party grade. This note's quality and low serial number for the series should propel it beyond that figure in our current market.
