Description

Condition Census 1928 $1,000 Gold Certificate
One of The 20th Century's Rarest Type Notes

Fr. 2408 $1,000 1928 Gold Certificate PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
PMG has graded none equal and only three Fr. 2408 examples higher. This is a new note for the census takers as Track & Price currently lists 84 serial numbers for this Friedberg number with only ten graded higher and none equal to our current offering. The inks are ideal on this piece with the orange overprint remaining bold on this attractive $1,000 Gold. We have been fortunate to offer two high grade examples recently. We had a PMG 63 EPQ piece realize $132,000 in January 2023 and in January 2024 a PMG 64 example also brought $132,000. These are our latest high-grade results and we fully expect the long term appreciation to continue. President Grover Cleveland was an appropriate choice of portrait for the $1,000 Gold Certificate as he supported the gold standard and opposed free silver. The results during his two administrations were a retention of the status quo and the question of free silver was postponed.
