Spectacular Gem 65 EPQ $100 1928 Gold
Fr. 2405 $100 1928 Gold Certificate. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65
EPQ.A truly rare and spectacular note in this state of preservation is offered here, with PMG having graded only one other at this level and only three higher by just one grade point. For PCGS Banknote, we cannot find a single appearance at auction for a Fr. 2405 above 63 PPQ. Having the PCGS Banknote verification number from that note tells us that they have graded seven higher than 63 PPQ, but not the individual grades of that septet. However, our archives reveal more. We have auctioned two examples graded PMG 65 EPQ and they are separated by ten years. The first offering is this exact note won by our consignor and it received a winning bid of $38,187 out of our August 2014 ANA auction. The second was in January 2024 at our FUN auction and that piece soared to $40,800. Broad margins that reveal two paper guide line markers, serial number embossing, white paper, and a dark orange overprint will surely propel the winning bid of our current offering to the 2024 figure, if not higher.
