Ex: Grinnell Serial Number 1 Atlanta $5

Serial Number 1 Fr. 1950-F $5 1928 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.
It is always a pleasure to find an ex: Grinnell note and that is the case with the Atlanta Serial Number 1 in this lot. This $5, with serial F00000001A, was lot 4978 in Part VII of the auction of The Albert A. Grinnell Collection held on November 30, 1946. Serial number and Treasury Seal embossing is strong on this lovely note that has been well preserved. Albert Avery Grinnell was born on June 12, 1865 in Shelby, New York. Grinnell, as a child, collected coins from the till of his father's general store. He was the founder in 1924 and the second president of the Detroit Coin Club. The coin club honored Grinnell with a gold medal in 1941. He also was life member number 20 of the ANA. His collection of coins and paper money was sold first by B. Max Mehl and then Barney Bluestone during 1943-47. We recently auctioned Grinnell's Serial Number 1 $20 1928 FRN, which realized $21,600 in our September 2024 Long Beach Signature Auction. We expect this Serial Number 1 $5 1928 FRN to do equally well.
