Attrition rates for $5,000 Federal Reserve notes were much higher than the $10,000s due in part to the preservation of so many very nice $10,000 notes in the Binion hoard. Some of the nicest $5,000s come from a little run of Dallas notes discovered over a decade ago. While all were nearly consecutive in serial number, the range in eye appeal and technical aspects pushes this piece to among the most attractive. The margins are exceptionally wide, Gem-sized with vibrant paper and a vivid Light Green overprint.

In 2015, we saw examples offer from Very Fine 30, which realized $82,250 to a 64PPQ which hit $223,250 in our FUN Auction. A PMG 58 and PMG 63 both also realized nearly $130,000. PMG indicates the note was retouched, a term reserved for the most invasive restoration work confined to the most minimal area, often less than a few millimeters.
