Description

Incredible High Grade $5,000 Offering

Fr. 2221-H $5,000 1934 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64. Both the $5,000 and $10,000 Federal Reserve Notes are listed in the Top 100 Greatest United States Notes, and are highly regarded as the trophy notes that serve as pillars in some of the best numismatic collections built. With a broad bidding base, and the rarity of Gem graded examples, there are few options for bidders beyond the 64 grade. For all districts combined, only about a half dozen Gems are graded by PCGS and PMG combined at the Gem level. The print run for 1934 St. Louis $5,000's was incredibly small, just 2,400 notes, with just the Cleveland district issuing fewer notes. The paper here is fresh, bright, and ideal for an iconic piece of currency. The face margins would be considered large enough for a full Gem grade adding to its eye appeal. Prices have topped $250,000 for a 64 EPQ, leading us to believe our estimate here could prove conservative.
