Description
Fresh and Fully Uncirculated $5,000 FRN
Fr. 2221-G $5,000 1934 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Choice
Uncirculated 63.A total of 6,600 1934 Chicago $5,000s were printed and issued. While New York and Chicago have plenty of survivors recorded in the census, attrition took its toll and high grade notes are far and few between. This Choice Uncirculated example, which is newly reported, sits close to the top of the PMG census for the district, with no Gems reported in their population report. Embossing from the overprint can be seen on the back. The margins are sufficient and even enough to give the note a Gem appearance. The creamy white paper is a perfect backdrop to the finely printed design elements.
The $5,000 and $10,000 Federal Reserve Notes are "trophy notes" for both their appeal to collectors and their striking appearance to non-collectors. For the most astute of collectors, the Very Choice Uncirculated grade is about all that is available. We have never offered a $5,000 third party graded Gem, and for this district, only one Gem has ever been graded by PCGS and PMG combined. That piece has never been seen at auction.
