Description
One of a Paltry Two Known 1928 Kansas City $5,000s
Fr. 2220-J $5,000 1928 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Extremely Fine
40.One of only a paltry two 1928 Kansas City $5,000s listed in Track & Price, this extreme rarity was acquired by our consigner when we auctioned the massive Taylor Family collection in February 2005. It was unique then as listed in Small Sized High Denomination Notes by Stephen M. Sullivan, but has since been joined by a PCGS 40 example listed in Track & Price that crossed the auction block in 2014. However, with only 720 printed, we would be surprised if any more were hidden away. This attractive XF "redeemable in gold on demand" example displays embossing of the Treasury Seal, the right serial number, and President Madison's coat. The delicately engraved lines of the coat are visible on the back at center. We also noticed that this piece possesses white paper and dark inks. The minor restoration mentioned on the back PMG label was professionally executed in the top margin. Simply, it is a great note worth whatever it takes to bring it home.
