Description

Nicely Preserved Series 1928 Chicago $5,000 PMG 64

Fr. 2220-G $5,000 1928 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
A rare denomination and even more so in such a high state of preservation. Punch-through embossing of the upper right serial number is easily observed on the back of this high-grade Chicago $5,000. It is a fully margined plate letter D note with paper guide line markers at top center and upper right. It was purchased at auction by our consignor in 2003 and is not listed in Track & Price. It is listed in the 2008 second edition of Stephen M. Sullivan's Small Sized High Denomination Notes. It is the sole finest Fr. 2220-G graded by PMG, but more importantly, PMG has graded 22 Series 1928 $5,000 notes with only one earning a higher or equal grade, a PMG 65 EPQ Fr. 2220-E. We auctioned the Richmond example for $780,000 in September 2024. Our current nicely preserved example should make a strong run at that figure.
