Description

Serial Number 10 1929 $100 FRBN Star Note

Fr. 1890-G* $100 1929 Federal Reserve Bank Note Star. PMG Choice About Unc 58.
An exceptionally scarce example, this $100 FRBN replacement possesses the second lowest star serial number of all districts. Out of all of these issuing districts, only a meager five double-digit serial numbers and a single one-digit are documented, all of which are from Chicago. This piece and other low serial star notes surfaced in the mid 1990s, creating an increased interest in the collecting of star replacement notes. Only a total of 13 FRBN star examples from Chicago are recorded. This note is among the top 3 or 4 in terms of condition, with a Gem 65 EPQ realizing $66,000 in our 2018 Central States Auction.
