Despite the presence of many low number notes, including more than a few single digit examples, the only number one specimens reported to date from all districts combined are two pieces from Atlanta (a $5 and this $20, both of which were in the Grinnell holdings), a $100 from Richmond that was in the Grinnell sale more than sixty years ago and has never again been seen, and a $5 Boston serial number 1 star. With the number 1 Boston star in very strong hands, and the Richmond hundred's whereabouts unknown for more than six decades, this offering may prove to be the sole opportunity for collectors to obtain a serial number 1 Federal Reserve Bank Note for a very long period of time.
