Waupun, WI- Corn Exchange Bank $2 18__ as G4a Remainder PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.
The bank opened in 1857. The bank considered converting to a national bank form of business, but thought better of the idea and continued as a state institution although giving notice that its free bank circulation would no longer be redeemed as of December 28, 1871. The bank ultimately relinquished its charter and voluntarily wound up its affairs in 1872. The note features a patriotic eagle and shield vignette flanked by an oval portrait of an older Andrew Jackson at upper left, the state banking die at lower right, and a large red TWO protector across the lower middle portion of the note.
