Description
Texana, TX- James A. Woolfolk at H.D. Starr $2 June 15, 1862 Medlar UNL PMG Very Fine 20.An interesting and rather complicated note. This appears to be a note issued by James A. Woolfolk who is listed as a medical doctor in the 1860 Federal Census for Texana, TX. It was intended to be presented to H.D. Starr who served as the Clerk of the County Court in Texana, again according to the 1860 Federal Census. A careful reading of the text indicates that Dr. Woolfolk had apparently deposited $100 in Confederate funds with the County Clerk Court as security for these notes which he evidently used for making change with his patients. A quite interesting arrangement and note. The edge damage noted by PMG is primarily confined to the left edge and does not touch the printed design elements. Another extremely rare note, that we believe is unique at present. Ex. Schingoethe Collection.
