Charleston, SC- Bank of the State of South Carolina $2 May 13, 1861 G38d Very Fine;
Charleston, SC- Bank of the State of South Carolina $10 Jan. 9, 1861 G58e Fine, CC;
Charleston, SC- State Bank $20 July 1, 1854 G40a Fine (2).
The portraits on the front of the $2 are of Franklin Elmore and John C. Calhoun. Theirs story adds historical interest to the note. Elmore served three years in the House of Representatives, then served as President of the Bank of South Carolina until he was appointed to fill the Senate seat of John C. Calhoun when he died. Elmore himself died only one month later. The $10 note has uncommonly seen circular hammer cut cancellations and features the portraits of Calhoun and Jefferson. One of the two $20 notes is stained. Both are stamped with a red letter K on the front near Washington's portrait. (Total: 4 notes)
