Description

Providence, RI- Weybosset Bank $5 June 18, 1856 as G22a as Durand 2070 Proof PCGS Very Choice New 64.
The bank was incorporated in 1831 and remained in business until becoming the Weybosset National Bank of Providence in 1865. The design features a large vignette of a Native American hunter spearing a bison flanked by a vignette of Plenty standing by the state seal and an oval portrait of the bank's first President, William Rhodes. It is printed on India paper with no cancels of any type. Neither the bank nor this design appeared in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. We are aware of only a single public auction appearance (this note) in at least the last decade.
