Description

Philadelphia, PA- Moyamensing Bank in the County of Philadelphia $5 18__ G4P Hoober 305-433 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
Chartered on March 30, 1832, the Moyamensing Bank lasted only 10 short years, closing in 1842. It later reopened as the Bank of Commerce, six years later, in 1848. That title was more successful and in 1864, it was succeeded by the National Bank of Commerce, charter 547. Identical ship vignettes in the end panels flank the familiar illustration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence at top center. We last auctioned the note in this lot in January 2025, when it realized $240. The signature spaces are cut out on this $5 Proof as a means of cancelling the note.
