Utica, NY- W.P. Carpenter 25¢ Oct. 6, 1862 Harris 132 Fine.A popular issue, thanks to its use of a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, still very much alive, and serving as president at the time this note was issued. Carpenter served as Utica City Treasurer and also as a bookkeeper for J.S. & M. Peckham where security for this issue was deposited. It is unclear whether this was a personal or municipal issue.
