Description

Bridgeton, NJ- Cumberland Bank at Bridgeton $3 18__ G28 as Wait 149 Proof PMG About Uncirculated 55.
The bank was incorporated in 1816 and remained in business until 1865 when it became the Cumberland National Bank of Bridgeton. The $3 design incorporates a vignette of Minerva at left, vignettes of three men talking, an eagle, and a vignette of Ceres talking with another maiden at right. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock without any POCs or other means of cancellation present. PMG notes several small tears, chips, and missing margin pieces. There was one example of this denomination and variety in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale with no subsequent public auction appearances known to us in the last decade.
From the Charles R. Pease, Jr. Collection
