Description

Brandon, MS- Mississippi & Alabama Rail Road Company $50 Apr. 1, 1838 G26b Kraus 10158 PMG Very Fine 25.
Notes from out-of-state issuers such as this railroad were pressed into service by the firm of R. and D.G. Mills of Galveston who endorsed and reissued them locally in the early 1840s. The railroad was in operation from roughly 1836-1841, ultimately becoming part of today's Canadian National Railway system. The $50 design incorporates a center vignette of a seated allegorical woman holding a scroll flanked by identical portraits of Franklin and Lafayette. PMG records some minimal ink erosion and mounting hinge remnants.
