(Jackson), MS- State of Mississippi Auditor's Warrant $191 June 13, 1840 PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
Payable to V.E. Howard, this warrant was issued on June 13, 1840, and is hammer canceled and endorsed on the back. Around three weeks later, Howard was wounded in a duel with former Governor Hiram Runnels as a result of a dispute over comments made about the Mississippi Union Bank (Runnels had served as President and Howard as a director). The warrant is endorsed on the back, hammer canceled, and bears a red ink Paid annotation across the face. PMG mentions some stains along the left and right margins.
