    Description
St. Paul, MN- Dayton Bank $2Engravings of three lovely women are found on this $2 remainder that was printed by Danforth, Wright & Co. The central portrait depicts Lyman Dayton, a successful entrepreneur who relocated to Minnesota shortly before the mass immigration that took place. Dayton acquired several thousand acres of land east of St. Paul, at least partially by buying soldiers' land warrants from men who had served during the Mexican War, and became a well known real estate dealer and was also known as a banker. His attempt to issue his own currency during 1856-57 as The Dayton Bank was not authorized by the state of Minnesota and quickly failed. Very Choice Crisp Uncirculated.
