Description

Saginaw, MI- Saginaw City Bank $10 Dec. 26, 1837 G10 Lee SAG-1-4 PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ.
The bank was organized in the closing weeks of 1837 and, like most of its peers, had failed by the end of 1838 due to insolvency. The first newspaper reports of the bank's failure did not surface until January of 1839. The $10 design features three dies with 10 - X - 10 flanked by a vignette of an early steam-powered vessel in an end panel at left and TEN in an end panel across the right. The note is in premium condition, sharply printed on bright paper whose somewhat tight margins preclude an even higher grade. Of the forty examples of this note registered in the PMG Population Report, only three are reported in higher grades.
