Description

Pittsfield, MA- Agricultural Bank Counterfeit $5 Jan. 1, 1819 C64 PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45.
The bank was organized around 1818 and remained in business until it became the Agricultural National Bank of Pittsfield in 1865. This early Reed imprint note has a vignette of a farmer tilling grain in the field. A very bright, boldly printed, and broadly margined example of a quality contemporary counterfeit, which has been marked as such on verso. PMG also mentions a previous mounting and an annotation which is the penned word "counterfeit" on the back. This is a surprisingly rare note.
