Description

Boston, MA- Massachusetts Bank $5 Sep. 1, 1860 G182d PMG Choice Fine 15, 6 POCs.
The bank was chartered in 1784 and remained in business for over eight decades until becoming the Massachusetts National Bank of Boston in 1865. The $5 design features a large rendition of the coat of arms of Massachusetts, flanked by a bust of George Washington at left and a portrait of John Adams at right. This is a late printing, with two green 5 protectors being added for additional counterfeit deterrence purposes. PMG mentions a corner missing, but this is still a scarce and seldom offered note.
