Description
Unique $1,000 Bi-Color Proof
Boston, MA- Hide & Leather Bank $1,000 Oct. 1, 1857 UNL Proof
PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.The $1,000 design features vignettes of Liberty standing at left and two cherubs representing Mercury and Agriculture at right which flank an unusual "O" shaped red protector. In addition, two small red 1000 protectors are in the signature spaces. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with six POCs in the signature lines. This likely unique note has a storied provenance. Its origins are traced to the 1990 ABNCo. sale (color plated in the catalog) where it resided as part of an impressive $100-$100-$500-$1,000 uncut sheet. It was purchased by the Schingoethes for $4,400 and later resold in their second numbered sale where it fetched $18,400. It was on the back cover of that catalog and later spent time in The Charles R. Pease, Jr. Collection before being sold for $7,500 in 2020. In today's market, we expect this latest price level to be tested or exceeded.
