Description

Excessively Rare Georgia Utopian Community Issue

Ware County, GA- Ruskin Commonwealth
An excessively rare and perhaps unique piece of scrip from this short lived utopian settlement founded in the 1890's by a group from Tennessee. Modeled on traditional co-operative lines, the community was named for John Ruskin, the English author, essayist, and advocate of self-contained communal units where all property was jointly owned. Like most of these experiments, the concept soon floundered on the economic realities of the day, but the community still exists just a few miles outside of Waycross. We know of no other pieces extant from this evanescent venture. Fine-Very Fine, with a tiny nick at the top margin, a wonderful Georgia rarity worthy of a very strong bid. Est. 500-900
