Description
Macon, GA- Macon Savings Bank $4 Mar. 16, 1863 Fine.Blanton Duncan, another of the Confederate government currency printers, took on business from private sector customers like the Macon Savings Bank. The $4 denomination may have been ordered to serve as another means of combatting the chronic change shortage. For example, if a $1 purchase was made with a $5 bill, one of these $4s could be tendered as change. There is a partially sealed pinhole in the "R" in FOUR. Several other pinholes are observed.
