Description

Griffin, GA- Exchange Bank of the State of Georgia $1-$2-$5-$10 18__ G2a-G4a-G6a-G8a Uncut Proof Sheet PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
The bank was organized in 1855 and remained in business until suspending in July 1858, with the Augusta Chronicle labeling the firm a wildcat or one-horse bank. The notes were quite impressive looking with a deep red-orange overall tint and red-orange and white denominational protectors. The notes depicted agricultural and slavery-related vignettes as well as portraits of famous personages such as Jefferson and Clay, PMG mentions tears which are primarily very small edge nicks and tears and tiny tears at the POCs. The sheet is printed on India paper with four POCs in the signature lines of each note. There were seven of these sheets in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale and several have clearly been cut in subsequent years to satisfy the demand for individual notes.
