Description

Tallahassee, FL- Bank of Florida $4 Feb. 1, 1844 G26 Benice 9 PCGS Apparent Choice About New 58.
The Bank of Florida was approved for business by the Territorial Legislative Council on November 23, 1828, and on March 10, 1845, its charter was rescinded due to failure to redeem its notes for specie. This $4 features a steam locomotive vignette at left with an alligator in the foreground, a farmer and hunter at center, and a sailing vessel at right. The design is finished by an allegorical representation of Ceres at bottom center. The note is cut cancelled, and PCGS mentions edge damage along the top margin as well as minor ink erosion. We auctioned a PMG 63 representative in October 2023 for $432. Our current offering was once a part of the Eric P. Newman holdings.
