Description

Danbury, CT- Pahquioque Bank $1 18__ as G32a Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
The bank was named after the early Native American inhabitants of the area and was in operation from 1854 until 1865 when it became the National Pahquioque Bank of Danbury. The note appropriately features a vignette of a Native American gazing at the encroachment of "Civilization" in the form of a distant city at center. It is flanked by a vignette of a mechanic and another of Liberty reclining by a federal shield. The American Bank Note Company imprint is a trade name used by Jocelyn, Draper, Welsh & Co. between 1854 and 1858. The note is printed on India paper mounted on card with no forms of cancellation present in the signature lines. Two examples (presumably including this note) of this variety appeared in Lot 49 of the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale.
