Description

Norwalk, CT- Fairfield County Bank Counterfeit $1 Jan. 1, 1835 as G24? PMG Very Fine 20.
The bank was organized in 1824, with a branch in Danbury which was spun off in 1844. The Norwalk bank charter was renewed in the same year. It remained in business until becoming the Fairfield County National Bank of Norwalk in early 1865. PMG labels this note a counterfeit although other sources indicate it to likely be a genuine example of Haxby's G24 note which was simply listed as NDA (No Description Available) in his 1988 catalog. This note crossed our auction block nearly two decades ago for $1,092. We will see what the current market values it at in tonight's auction.
