Hartford, CT- Exchange Bank $1 18__ as G8 Proof PCGS About New 53.
The Exchange Bank was organized in 1834 and survived a difficult period during the Panic of 1857 to become the National Exchange Bank of Hartford in 1864. The $1 design features America and Liberty seated by the shore flanked by two cameo-like medallion head ONE counters. A cameo head of Shakespeare is at left and an allegorical woman standing in a niche is at right. The note is printed on India paper with two POCs in the signature lines.
