Description

Brighton, NY- Eagle Bank $1 Aug. 1, 1850 G2 Proof PCGS Very Choice New 64PPQ.
The Eagle Bank commenced active operation in 1850 and, after moving to Rochester in 1851, remained in business under that name until 1859 when it merged with the Manufacturers Bank of Rochester to form a new entity, the Traders Bank of Rochester, which went on to become the Traders National Bank of Rochester which was chartered on May 1, 1865. The $1 note, appropriately enough, features an eagle with its wings spread flanked by smaller vignettes of a dog and safe at left and Hope at right. An arm and hammer vignette is at bottom center while the state banking die is at lower left. A second eagle vignette is at right. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with four POCs in the signature lines. There were twelve examples of this note spread across several lots in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale.
