Washington (-on-the-Brazos), TX- Republic of Texas Treasury Warrant $75 Oct. 2, 1843 Cr. W5 Medlar 6 PMG Choice About Unc 58.
This warrant was issued during Washington's second stint as capital of the Republic from September 1842 until late 1845 when the capital was moved back to Austin. This warrant was issued to pay the salary of James H. Raymond, Chief Clerk of the Texas House of Representatives at the time. Raymond later held the distinction of being the last Treasurer of the Republic of Texas and the first Treasurer of the State of Texas (1844 - 1858). Raymond's signature appears on the back as his endorsement.
